Chile’s wine valleys: which one is right for you?

Private tours only · never shared groups · itinerary 100% your own

Chile has more than 14 wine valleys stretching from Elqui to Bío Bío. The goal is not to visit more wineries — it’s to choose the right valley for your palate, your time and your trip. This is the same guide we use with our own guests.

1

Maipo Valley

30–45 min from Santiago · Cabernet Sauvignon · warm climate

The closest and most historic valley. Home of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and icon wineries like Concha y Toro, Santa Rita and Cousiño-Macul. Warm, Mediterranean and elegant. Ideal for a first visit, classic-red lovers or anyone short on time: you’re back in the city by mid-afternoon.

Best for: First time · Cabernet · history · half day

Casablanca Valley

~75 min toward the coast · cool-climate whites

The cool, coastal valley: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir shaped by Pacific breeze and morning fog. Fresh gastronomy, organic and biodynamic projects. Perfect for white-wine lovers, food lovers and couples. Pairs beautifully with Valparaíso or Viña del Mar.

~2.5–3 h south · bold reds & icon wines

The valley of great reds: Carmenère, Cabernet and Syrah, icon wines and the Apalta amphitheater. Home to Montes, Lapostolle (Clos Apalta), Viu Manent and VIK. An immersive full day for serious wine lovers, with architecture and high-end experiences.

Best for: Icon reds · full day · architecture · wine lovers

Aconcagua & Elqui

mountains & north · boutique and altitude

For travelers who want something off the beaten path. Aconcagua adds mountains and boutique projects (Errázuriz, Seña). Elqui, much further north, offers high-altitude vineyards, Syrah, Pisco and astro-tourism skies. Different, private and memorable routes for those who already know the classics.

Best for: Off-the-beaten-path · boutique · mountains

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Which valley is best for a first wine tour?

Maipo Valley: it’s 30–45 minutes from Santiago, the cradle of Chilean Cabernet, and home to historic wineries like Concha y Toro and Santa Rita. Half a day gives you a complete introduction.

Can I combine two valleys in one day?

Maipo and Casablanca can be combined in a well-planned full day. Colchagua, given the distance, works best as a dedicated full day. We coordinate it around your date and energy.

When is the best time to visit?

September to April. The harvest (vendimia) runs February to April and is the most vibrant season, with the wineries in full activity.

Do I need to book wineries in advance?

Yes. Premium wineries work by reservation. We secure slots, timing, lunch and equivalent alternatives if a winery has no availability.

Are the tours private or shared?

Always private for your group, with an exclusive vehicle and chauffeur-guide. Never shared buses or mass departures.

Ready to choose your valley?
